medical beds, heart, heart attack, ultrasound, breast biopsy
Stress echo cardiology designed bed with bike motion to increase heart rate while sonographer is scanning ultrasound to see heart rate jump in cardiology for heart disease. Vascular tilt motion allows blood to go in either direction while sonographer is scanning the patient for various types of movement in radiology ultrasound sonogram type situations. We design medical beds and tables for radiology and radiologist, obgyn specialist, cardiology, pain management and stress echo cardiology for hospitals and clinics.

Medical Positioning Inc. (MPI) is a medical products company located in Kansas City Missouri. The company has innovated and improved important and rapidly growing medical technologies, utilizing a complementary product approach to improve the performance of new core technologies.

MPI began as a niche business in 1990 under the name American Echo Inc. Recognizing that ultrasound would play an ever increasing role in medical diagnosis, the Company was founded to manufacture and sell specialty tables to improve cardiac ultrasound. A leading cardiologist in echocardiography guided the original product development (Echo™Beds). These products enabled cardiac sonographers to obtain improved ultrasound images.

As with the initial model, remaining close to the technology and listening carefully to clinical opinion leaders has allowed the company to be highly innovative and led to multiple new features and product lines. In 1999 the company launched a major program to significantly expand the product offerings. MPI has released over 100 models and established an installed base of more than 4,000 units. MPI earned eight issued patents and three more are pending. Throughout the '90's the company achieved consistent growth in excess of 15% per year.

An early improvement in the cardiac ultrasound products was the addition of a supine ergometer to the Echo™Bed allowing peak imaging stress echo to be performed rather than the conventional post-exercise approach. The patented Stress Echo™Bed has documented superiority and has become a flagship product. (In the first quarter of 2002, MPI entered into a strategic alliance with Quinton Instruments to sell a product combining the Quinton Q-Stress ECG and the Stress Echo™Bed.)

As the Echo™Bed product line grew, customers requested the capability of combining echocardiography with tilt table testing on the same table. The result was the Rapid Response™HUT™Table. This patented technology returns the patient from head-up tilt back to horizontal very quickly in emergent situations. The addition of a radiolucent top to this table lead to the development of an entire line of portable fluoroscopy tables. As in the past, MPI continued to lead the way by offering the highest quality carbon fiber top, which provides our customers with greatly improved images while lowering the secondary radiation exposure to their staff. Improved outcomes, increased throughput and enhanced patient and staff safety are just a few of the benefits provided by these specialized platforms. Our bariatric capable tables offer a wide range of choices for procedures performed in several modalities including:

• Pain Medicine
• Interventional Radiology
• Cardiac Cath Lab
• Invasive Electrophysiology

Working with several radiologists over the past two years, the company has developed a new approach to breast biopsy. MPI has several opinion leading mammography centers that agree that the company's approach will establish and become the new standard of care for this procedure. In addition, the company has completed strategic distribution agreements with companies selling imaging equipment for mammography. General Electric Healthcare is selling the MPI breast biopsy table to improve the performance of their equipment. The unique, patented features will allow the DBI™Table to overcome current objections to all forms of breast biopsy, and increase utilization of mammography equipment.
